Thing #3

Blog search engines. This was my first experience using blog search engines. I compared Technorati and Google Blog Search. In the end both experiences gave solid information, but Google Blog search was much faster in response. Technorati's speed reminded me of myself walking across the library when my Sciatica is acting up... grumpy and inefficient.

I definitely will be using blog search engines in the future to bring information that interests me to my attention. If anything I am thankful for the chance to get Secret Family Cider Ham Recipes... opportunities like this are a great example of how information exchange is changing with technology and conectivity.

Well, I have to run - there is a coupon that I have that is expiring and I must use it.

Thing #2

I am passionate about life, and find enthusiasm and enjoyment many places. When the IRS introduces new tax forms, or I have left over borscht for "la din", I get downright giddy. After reading about Library 2.0, I am overcome with a similar sensation.

We can not imagine nor anticipate the way our world is changing, and the way our libraries must change to stay relevant. It is clear that the way we communicate and disseminate information is changing - more collaborative, transparent, etc. I am excited about being a part of the "23 things" and see this experience as a catalyst for change - for myself, and for colleagues.

I'll admit, I was motivated to do this by the chance to get "free stuff" (like a Honey Baked Ham gift certificate?), but after completing thing #2 I am excited and invigorated to press forward. One great aspect of this journey is that our world is changing, and we get a chance to actively be part of the movement. Embarking on this journey puts me in mind of one of my personal heroes, Edwin Drake. Drake changed the way we live, and in a much different way Library 2.0 is doing the same. I feel we are in the midst of a great opportunity, but as opposed to 150 years ago change happens quicker and more often.

I will be interested to note changes in attitude and culture in my colleagues (as Stephen Abram alluded to in his video interview), and hope the entire process is as rewarding as I anticipate.

Gotta Run... I am 5 minutes late for "La Din:

23 Things @ NEFLIN

Welcome to my blog. I am excited to take part in this program and being able to learn new skills. Technology has changed the way we live, and as a librarian I am always looking for ways to stay educated and share.

For instance, when I am on one of my many vacations, I get the latest ham recipes sent directly to my phone so I can prepare a great meal whilst driving to the next campground. Mother is so proud. And of course the Internet has made it easy to stay in touch with the happenings in oil city, http://www.thederrick.com/. Also, I can get great items like my Yap shirt shipped directly to my cubicle. This new techie world is great, and I can't wait to share my experiences with everyone. Well, thanks for reading.
